The most important aspect of Lawyers to the Rescue is that it helps serve an underprivileged and underserved population of our fellow citizens. I truly believe in its initiative because lawyers are the best equipped to help this group with their urgent legal needs. The aggregate effect of serving one member of society is that it will benefit the community as a whole.
Further, at a time when universities and employers are putting more and more emphasis on community service, Lawyers to the Rescue has responded by offering a community service opportunity to lawyers and law students in South Florida. My personal experience with the legal clinic has been eye-opening. The organization has allowed me to interact with people from all walks of life and with many different legal issues. This interaction is taken a step further by allowing students to actually sit in on consultatons that the attorneys have with the clients. Lawyers to the Rescue also allows students to conduct the actual intakes with the clients in a triage fashion that makes it very dynamic and exciting.
This concurrent blend of learning and applying knowledge to help those in need creates a very educational and rewarding experience. I feel that all this leads to making me more well-rounded, conscientious individual as well as a stronger candidate for any position legal or otherwise.
